Previously Froch had beaten Groves to retain his IBF and WBA titles before match referee Howard Foster had stopped the duel due to controversial circumstances in the ninth round. The referee insisted that Groves was in no shape to continue the match. Incidentally, Froch had been knocked down in the first round itself and Groves had been leading with all the three judges when the referee called for the interruption. Since then the IBH has upheld the appeal by George Groves for a rematch and cited the referee’s misinterpretation for the same.
Both the Brits have been known to have an attritional relationship. However, BoxingScene.com surprised the world with the news that the boxers had agreed upon not going out with purse both. Both the player’s men confirmed Daryl Peoples, the President of International Boxing Federation about the mutual agreement. The president said that this indeed is going to be an exciting fight and there are two of the top notch players in the Federation. According to Barney Francis, the Managing Director of Sky Sports, this rematch is something that the whole boxing world has been waiting for a long time now. The first both did showcase some amazing drama from both the fighter and it is expected to continue in the rematch.
While it is expected that the footfall will swell above 80,000, this will also going to the first time since 2007 that the Wembley will host a fight. Anyone involved with the event will have enough reason to feel proud. This match is certainly going down in the history books.
Now that the tickets have been put on for sale; since March 10, the initial demand suggests that it had been a wise move by the IFB to choose a bigger venue like the Wembley. In the words of Eddie Hearth, “Quite simply, I believe this is one of the biggest fights in British boxing history. It was one of the most epic and exhilarating fights I have ever witnessed and I'm delighted the public are going to get a chance to see it all again.”
There were initially some logistical hurdles which have now been ably managed with the help of Sky Sports and FA and the stage is all set for the whirlwind! Back in September last year, the first bout between the Brits had witnessed an incredible sale of 21,000 tickets in a mere 12 minutes. This year’s tickets are priced between £30 and £500. The ticket prices for Bowl are £30, £40, £60, £80 and £100 while that for the pitch seating are priced at £60, £80, £100, £200, £300 and £500. Ambulant and Disabled sales are also available.
